Body found washed ashore in Fennville may be linked to missing Chicago man

Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker said investigators were able to recover fingerprints from the man and are working to find a match.

FENNVILLE, Mich. — The Allegan County Sheriff's Office is looking into a potential link between a man missing from the Chicago area to the remains of a man washed ashore this week.

Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker said the missing person from Chicago was wearing the same type of shoes as those that were recovered Wednesday.

Investigators also recovered fingerprints from the remains and sent them to a national database with hopes of a match.

Homeowners in Fennville called law enforcement Wednesday after they saw what appeared to be a body on the shore.

Investigators rushed to the 2200 block of Lakeshore Drive and found the body of a man washed ashore.

Law enforcement said the man appeared to be under the age of 40, and he wasn't wearing any clothes besides size 12 brown leather Converse All Star shoes/boots.

Investigators also said the man had been in the water for some time and eventually washed to shore. That's one of the reasons why they haven't been able to identify him.

While there are no initial signs of foul play, Allegan County authorities consider his death suspicious.

Sheriff's Detectives are awaiting results from the Medical Examiner's office for the cause of death and identification.

If you have information that would be helpful in identifying the person, you can contact Lieutenant Mike Brown at 269-673-0442.
