BIG RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- After noticing bird feeders in disarray two mornings in a row, a Mecosta County woman bought a wildlife camera to verify a suspicion about a neighborhood prowler.
Erin Young's camera captured a dark image showing what appears to be a black bear climbing the deck in her back yard.
Earlier this week she noticed bird feeders dragged across the yard and part of her deck missing. She also spotted what appeared to be a large paw print in the ground.
"Sometimes your mind can trick you," Young said. So she and her husband installed a camera in the back yard.
At 11:42 p.m. Tuesday, the camera caught the bear red-handed, returning for birdseed. "We think he wanted the suet we set out for the woodpeckers," she said.
Young, who lives in a wooded lot near 15 Mile Road and 230th Avenue, says she'll be taking in the bird feeders at night to prevent another visit from the roaming bear.
