'Tremendous loss': Toddler of Phoenix first responder dies after bounce house goes airborne

Strong wind picked up the bounce house while several children were playing inside of it.

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. — A 2-year-old child died after a strong gust of wind picked up a bounce house Saturday afternoon near Casa Grande.

2-year-old Bodhi Naaf was the child of a Phoenix firefighter Karl Naaf and his wife Cristy, according to a GoFundMe set up for the family. To add to the tragedy, the couple is expecting their second child in May.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened at about 5 p.m. near Rosemead Drive and Bel Air Road, located a couple of miles from the Central Arizona College campus.

Several children, including Bodhi Naaf, were playing in the bounce house when it went airborne and landed in a neighboring lot. Two children were taken to the hospital where Bodhi later died.

The other child sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the grieving family," PCSO wrote in a statement.

The Phoenix Fire Department said they are doing whatever they can to support the family.

"We are all so saddened for this tremendous loss," the department said in a statement.
