Battle Creek house fire leads to dog's death

While searching the home, crews found the dog on the first floor and brought it outside. They tried to resuscitate it but were unsuccessful.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A dog died in a fire in a Battle Creek home on Saturday night, according to the Battle Creek Fire Department. 

The department said crews were dispatched to 214 Orchard Street around 9:55 p.m. for a reported structure fire. 

When crews arrived, they said they found a two-story house with smoke showing from the back and began work to put out the fire. 

While searching the home, crews found the dog on the first floor and brought it outside. They tried to resuscitate it but were unsuccessful. 

According to the Fire Inspector, the fire started in the kitchen. 

The house has fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout, the department said.
