WYOMING, Mich. — An early morning fire in Wyoming has displaced some residents, but nobody was hurt.

The fire started around 2 a.m. in a unit at the Pinery Woods Apartments complex on Michael Avenue SW in Wyoming.

Authorities say the fire was first noticed by a resident who smelled smoke and called 911.

A supervisor with the Kent County Central Dispatch tells 13 ON YOUR SIDE that the fire started in the kitchen and then spread into the walls, according to preliminary investigation. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and keep it from spreading any further.

A firefighter told our crew at the scene that about 12 apartment units were impacted by the fire. The Red Cross has been called in to help those residents who were forced to evacuate.

Dispatch tells us there have been no reports of any injuries to people or pets.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Wyoming Fire Department responded to the scene and was assisted by Grandville Fire Department.

Anyone with additional information about the fire is asked to contact the Wyoming Fire Department Fire Investigator at 616-257-9764.
