Where did the trees go at Ah Nab Awen Park?

Work is continuing this spring on a flood wall along the Grand River in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — You might notice something is missing the next time you visit Ah Nab Awen Park in Downtown Grand Rapids.

13 On Your Side contacted the city to find out why it had removed a large area of trees along the Grand River. We were told they were taken out as part of the ongoing work to upgrade the flood wall downtown.

The city is installing barrier walls and making other improvements to reach the 100-year flood elevation which is required by the federal government.

The section of the work is expected to cost about $1.6 million.
