GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Fire Department (GRFD) shared new information about the fire at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company in February during a Public Safety Committee meeting.

GRFD Chief Brad Brown provided a short presentation about the fire and the response from the department.

GRFD is considering their response to the fire to be a "really fortunate outcome for what could have been a pretty rough afternoon."

Brown said that 40 GRFD personnel responded to the fire and were supported by Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) officers.

The fire department and police were able to completely evacuate the entire block within 15 minutes of GRFD arriving at the scene. Brown said that GRPD were instrumental in helping keep people away from the fire while several events were happening downtown.

GRFD attacked the fire in three locations: In the kitchen in the basement of the building, along the exterior HVAC run on the side of the building, and the roof of the building.

Using a method similar to an insurance claim, GRFD calculated that the rebuild value of the building and its contents at $11.75 million. GRFD said the cost of repairs to the building and its contents was just over $400,000.

Brown said he was happy with GRFD's ability to extinguish the fire, causing monetary damage equal to only 4.57% of the building's total value.

There were no injuries resulting from the fire.
