71-year-old woman dies after rear-ending pickup truck in Ionia Co. crash

The woman's car caught fire, and first responders were unable to rescue her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — A woman was killed Sunday after rear-ending a stopped pickup truck, prompting a multi-vehicle crash.

Michigan State Police say the crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on M-66 near Tuttle Road in Ionia County. A 71-year-old Saranac woman was driving southbound when she rear-ended a pickup truck that was stopped in traffic.

The truck was pushed into a third vehicle.

The woman's car caught fire, and first responders were unable to rescue her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear if any other injuries were reported in this crash.

The investigation is still ongoing.
