LUDINGTON, Mich. - On June 9, Ludington went for their third world record attempt: the longest line of bikes.

Unfortunately, they fell short of breaking the record. Kim Skeltis from Blue Blaze PR, said that they were actually trying to break two records. The first is the longest parade of moving bikes, which would have required 1,200 cyclists to participate. The second is the longest line of static bikes, which needed 1,500 cyclists.

In total, 835 people showed up with their bikes.

"We did not break the world record," said Skeltis. "But we had a good time trying."

Skeltis also said they had a range of ages participate in the event, from kids on their first bikes to adults.

This isn't the first time that Ludington has tried to break a world record. Previously, they attempted the world's longest ice cream dessert and then the most sand angels.

Looking ahead, they will probably try for another record. "Ludington has a tradition of going for world records," said Skeltis. She said that they would probably try in a different category, and they tend to pick things that embody what Ludington is all about.

This year, they picked the longest line of bicycles because the city recently added more trails to their cycling system.

The world record attempt was a part of a a weekend of festivities with Love Ludington. The celebration of the city continues on Sunday, June 10 with West Shore Pride Fest and Historic Home Tours.
