Nearly 370 of the 971 construction fatalities recorded in 2017 were due to a fall, according to Michigan's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). And worst of all, those death were preventable.

National Safety Stand-Down is from May 6 to 10. The voluntary event among construction employers is meant to raise fall hazard awareness across the country in order to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

A Safety Stand-Down is a time where employers can talk directly to employees about safety, and any workplace can hold a stand-down by taking a break to focus on fall hazards and the importance of fall prevention.

MIOSHA has partnered with a number of organization and programs in order to continue to bring awareness to ways that fall fatalities can be prevented, including CD Barnes, Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the National Safety Council, the National Construction Safety Executives (NCSE) and the U.S. Air Force.

If you plan to host a free event that is open to the public, see OSHA's Events page to submit the event details and to contact your Regional Stand-Down Coordinator.
