It should be around 30 degrees New Year’s Day morning for the 45th annual Sgt. Preston Yukon King run at the Muskegon State Park.
Four hundred runners are expected to participate in the 6-mile and 5K race. The course includes the difficult block house hill, which gets even harder if the road is covered in ice.
On Monday, Dec. 3,1 runners were picking up race numbers at North Muskegon High School.
The event raises funds to support the school’s athletic programs.
“It’s exciting and a great way to kick off the new year,” said Bob Tarrant, race director. “I enjoy being a part of it because all of the participants are so thankful and just so appreciative to have this event and it’s great for our community and great for our school.”
Registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning with the both races scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
