GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Here’s an exciting opportunity to recognize our West Michigan educators. Nominations are being accepted over the next couple of weeks offering teachers $500 to fill their classrooms with books.
This is the fourth year that the company Workbox Staffing is offering the giveaway. The company’s chief operating officer, Heather Shadley, told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that one of their founding principles is to do good, and this is one way they’re doing that.
They were expecting most of the nominations to come in from teachers and other adults, but that hasn’t been the case.
“Amazingly enough, most of our nominations came from students. Very heartfelt emotional nominations for the teachers and the amazing work that they do. A big thing is just teachers make such a big impression on our youth and they’re purchasing stuff out of their own pockets for their classrooms and there’s just this huge need for more materials for the students and for the teachers,” said Shadley.
Five teachers will be chosen and given a $500 shopping spree with Scholastic.
