VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — Two men were arrested following a high-speed chase across counties Sunday morning.

According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, around 2:50 a.m. deputies received several calls about a dark-colored sedan traveling at high speeds on I-94 near the 56-mile marker and swerving into other lanes. A caller also reported only one of the car's headlights was working.

Deputies were dispatched and found a black 2007 Mercury Marquis matching the description around mile marker 63. While following the car, deputies said they discovered multiple other violations.

Despite attempts to stop the car, deputies said it refused, and a pursuit began.

A sergeant deployed spike strips near the 65-mile marker, but they didn't work and the chase continued into Kalamazoo County.

Stop sticks were then deployed by deputies and succeeded in stopping the vehicle near the US 131 exchange.

Deputies said they removed the driver, a 30-year-old man from Kalamazoo, without incident and placed him in custody. They found he had multiple warrants from various locations including Kalamazoo, Kent County and Wyoming Police Department.

Deputies said the passenger, a 36-year-old man from Grand Rapids, had a gun visible in his waistband which they were able to remove and placed the man into custody after "a brief struggle."

The driver is currently being held on charges of fleeing and eluding and operating while intoxicated, alongside various other warrants, deputies said.

According to deputies, the passenger's gun was found to be stolen from a different jurisdiction. He's being held on multiple charges including resisting arrest and having possession of a stolen firearm.
