WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) – A man pulled over by Wyoming police earlier this month with a loaded handgun and five Molotov cocktails waived a probable cause hearing Thursday, sending the criminal case to circuit court.
Dressed in a black suit and tie, 34-year-old Kevin Bert Fenton appeared in Wyoming District Court on Thursday where he agreed to waive two hearings and proceed to trial.
Wyoming police stopped his Chevy station wagon Oct. 19 on 44th Street near Clay Avenue SW. As the officer talked with Fenton, he smelled what he thought was gasoline. The officer discovered five homemade Molotov cocktails in the back of the vehicle, court records show.
Possession of the explosive devices is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. He was also charged with having a loaded handgun and cited for two traffic offenses.
Fenton, who lives in Belding, spent two days in jail before posting a $50,000 bond.
The Kent County Prosecutor's Office has offered Fenton a deal that would allow him to enter a plea for having the Molotov cocktails. In exchange, a weapons charge would be dismissed and no further charges filed.
Fenton declined comment as he left the Wyoming courtroom Thursday afternoon.
