WASHINGTON — Actor Oh Young-soo, who starred in the hit Netflix series "Squid Game," was convicted Friday of indecent assault and given an eight-month suspended prison sentence.

According to multiple media reports, a South Korean judge found the 79-year-old guilty of inappropriately hugging an actress, holding her hand and kissing her cheek back in 2017.

As part of the sentence, he was also ordered to attend 40 hours of classes on sexual violence.

Oh told reporters after the verdict that he planned to appeal, the New York Times reported. According to the outlet, prosecutors said Oh hugged the woman, held her hand, kissed her cheek and made potentially inappropriate sexual comments across multiple occasions.

After he was initially charged, Oh denied wrongdoing, telling South Korean cable channel JTBC that he had only held the woman’s hands to “show her the way” as they walked around a lake.

Oh became the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe after he was named the top supporting actor for his role in “Squid Game,” about a desperate group of adults competing in deadly children’s games for a chance to escape severe debt.

Oh was also nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Oh Il-nam, a mysterious elderly contestant, also known as Player 001, who joined the games after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

After the charges were announced, he was not included in the cast for season 2 of "Squid Game," which is scheduled for release later this year. He was also dropped from an upcoming film in South Korea.
