How you can vote early, in person in Michigan

During the early voting period in Michigan, voters are given a ballot that they can insert directly into a tabulator at their voting site.

MICHIGAN, USA — Michigan voters have the ability to cast their ballots in person at early voting sites before Election Day.

Beginning with the presidential primary election on Feb. 27 and for every statewide and federal election after, Michigan voters will be able to vote early and in person.

The ability to vote this way was made possible in November 2022 when Michigan voters approved a constitutional amendment allowing early, in-person voting ahead of the statewide and federal elections.

Many states have some form of an early voting period, including New York, Texas and West Virginia.

The early voting period takes place for a minimum of nine consecutive days, ending the Sunday before an election. Communities can decide to provide additional days, with up to 29 total.

The sites must be open for at least eight hours each day during the early voting period.
