Shepherds of Independence

Learn about the services offered by Shepherds of Independence.

Shepherds of Independence was founded in 2001, as a Supportive Housing provider here in the Greater Grand Rapids area. The intention was to provide housing and the necessary services needed to support a very vulnerable population, homeless individuals with disabilities. Mental and physically disabled adults that are unable to live independently are served at Shepherds. We recognized a huge need for housing that would help this population remain stable and housed for indefinite periods. We have residents that have lived at Shepherds for over 12 years. We currently provide for 48 single adults in two buildings on the NW side of Grand Rapids.
The housing provided consists of a personal room with all utilities included, large areas of community space that the residents can utilize for their social needs. We provide laundry facilities, including the detergent. There is access to a phone for those that don't have one.

The supports we offer include three meals per day, medication oversight for those individuals that require administered medications, and staff that is available on a 24/7 basis. We provide transportation to and from medical appointments. We at Shepherds co-ordinate with any case management involved with the residents, so that any needs that may enhance the resident's condition would be addressed.
