22-0 | North Muskegon completes perfect undefeated regular season for first time

The Norse want to make sure they do whatever it takes to win the last game of the season.

NORTH MUSKEGON, Mich. — There is just one word needed to describe boys sports at North Muskegon High School — perfection.

On Monday night, the Norsemen boys basketball team finished the regular season a perfect 22-0. It is the first time in program history an undefeated regular season has ever happened.

"We've talked about the pressure," North Muskegon head coach Chuck Rypstra said. "The pressure is showing up every night because everyone is trying to give you your best shot. You have to make sure you are coming out with the energy that the game deserves."

That is off the heels of the football team's unblemished regular season and first regional title since 1986.

"It feels great to carry on what we did in football and bring it into the basketball program because a lot of these guys work hard," North Muskegon junior James Young said.

It's clear this group of Norsemen knows how to win games.

However, just like in football, North Muskegon is not just satisfied with winning now. The Norse want to make sure they do whatever it takes to win the last game of the season.

"We work together and we all hang out together," North Muskegon sophomore Adam Dugener said. "I feel like that is going to help our chemistry along the way to get to the main spot. That's not the main goal. Breslin is the main goal. The main thing is the championship."

The Norsemen played well enough to get a bye in districts in the postseason. North Muskegon will play the winner of Holton and Shelby a week from Wednesday for a spot in the district title game.
