This week's Meijer Scholar Athlete is Katie Ackerman

FREMONT, Mich. — This week's Meijer Scholar Athlete is a hard worker who makes the most of every moment.

Fremont High School student-athlete Katie Ackerman stays busy.

On top of being on the Packers girls' basketball team, she was also voted as the president of the FFA.

Her favorite subject is English because she loves reading and writing, and her grades are impressive. Ackerman has a 3.9 GPA.

She said being a good student-athlete comes down to staying on task.

"Just (doing) the hard work in the classroom," Ackerman said. "Always getting your homework done and just listening to the teachers and respecting them. They'll always help you if you ask. It's always come really natural to me so it just really comes natural. I would always say respect others and be kind and hard work pays off."

Ackerman loves animals, so much so that she's hoping to go to Michigan State to study veterinary nursing.
