Science Hacks With Sam Jacques: Engineering a bubble machine

It's time to think like an engineer and build your very own bubble machine!

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Engineers use scientific principles to create, design and build! This STEM experiment allows you to do just that with a few simple household items.

Supplies needed:

  1. Sock
  2. Plastic Bottle With Squeeze Top
  3. Dish Soap

Experiment Steps:

  1. Cut off the end of the squeeze bottle
  2.  Pull the sock over the end of it
  3. Dip the sock into some dish soap
  4. Blow into the end of the squeezy bottle and watch the bubble machine activate!

The Science:

Surprisingly, creating your own bubble machine is easier than it may seem and chances are you already have everything you need. Your breath is the only force you will need to fire up this machine. When blowing into the bottle, the fabric of the sock filters just enough air to create a funnel of bubbles.
