MSP: Semi driver dead after truck falls from US-131 exit ramp

Update: Ramp from southbound US-131 to westbound I-196 reopened just before 8:40 a.m.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan State Police say a semi-truck fell off the ramp from southbound US-131 to westbound I-196 Tuesday morning, killing the driver.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver was going too fast, lost control and then tipped over the edge of the roadway. The truck fell several feet before landing near Turner Avenue. Police say the driver was pronounced dead on scene.

Both Turner Avenue and the ramp from southbound US-131 to westbound I-196   were closed for several hours Tuesday morning while police investigated the incident and inspected the bridge for damage.

The ramp reopened just before 8:40 a.m.
