Most of Lake Michigan lakeshore expected to have dangerous waves and currents

Swimmers should stay out of the water on Wednesday. The National Weather Service said this impacts beaches between St. Joseph and Manistee.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids warns swimmers that dangerous waves and currents are expected as far south as St. Joseph and as far north as Manistee Wednesday.

The NWS said strong southwest winds are firing up waves and currents, posing a risk for swimmers.

The most dangerous conditions are expected on the south side of the south piers.

A good motto to follow during these conditions is, "stay dry when waves are high."
