Was your home damaged in Tuesday's storms? Kalamazoo County wants to hear from you

The storm reports provided by residents will help the county distribute crews and help speed up the cleanup process.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — If you live in Kalamazoo County and had your home damaged by Tuesday's storms, county officials want to hear from you.

Kalamazoo County Emergency Management posted a self-reporting survey on Facebook overnight for county residents to report storm damage. The county will use these reports to dispatch crews to help clean up debris and begin the recovery process.

This comes after portions of Kalamazoo County saw multiple tornadoes Tuesday evening. The Midwest saw a total of seven tornadoes, at least four of which are believed to have been in Southwest Michigan and two of those four are believed to have hit Portage.

The storms caused severe damage ranging from uprooted trees to roofs blown off buildings. The Kalamazoo County sheriff said 15 homes were destroyed and about 176 were damaged.

While no serious injuries were reported, the sheriff said there are an estimated 16 to 20 people who sustained injuries in the Oak Brook Estates mobile home park in Portage alone.

Officials also confirmed one woman was rescued from under her mobile home. In the nearby FedEx Center, about 50 employees were temporarily trapped inside when the roof and front of the building blew off.

Crews are now working to clean up the debris.

If you live in Kalamazoo County and need to submit a damage report, you can do that here.

If you need assistance, call 211 to be directed to the services you need. You are asked to only call 911 if it is an emergency.
