American Heart Association: Recognize signs of heart attack through 'Go Red for Women'

The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative is working to help women recognize the signs of a heart attack.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On the first Friday of February, which is also American Heart Month, the nation comes together in a wave of red from coast to coast. From landmarks to news anchors and even online communities -- millions of people come together for a common goal of eradicating heart disease and stroke.

The American Heart Association’s "Go Red for Women" initiative is working to help women recognize the signs of a heart attack. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, killing more women than all forms of cancer combined.

Jeanne LaSargeBono, Executive Director, American Heart Association in West Michigan and Corporate Chef John Taylor, RedWater Restaurant Group, stopped by to talk about heart health and how heart disease and stroke aren't just a man's disease.

National Wear Red Day is February 7 and if you want to get involved. LaSargeBono said there is a fundraiser on the AHA website that will raise money and awareness. More than $13,000 have already been raised.
