Corewell Health Smoking Cessation Program veers away from one-size-fits-all approach to quitting

Studies have shown that the health benefits of quitting can be immediate, possibly even 20 minutes after taking that last puff.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Giving up tobacco and nicotine, to some, may seem like an insurmountable task, especially when cravings and withdrawal symptoms start to set in. But studies have shown that the health benefits of quitting can be immediate, possibly even 20 minutes after taking that last puff.

Libby Stern is a tobacco treatment clinical specialist with Corewell Health. She leads programming efforts that may make that uphill battle a little easier.

Stern joined us to talk about some of the immediate and long-term benefits that quitting smoking can have on a person’s health.

She explained that the Corewell Health program meets patients where they are, as opposed to some of the one-size-fits-all programs offered elsewhere.

Stern said Corewell Health has developed an app that can help participants succeed in quitting.
