Hundreds flock to 'luckiest store in the world' in Comstock Park for Powerball tickets

Hundreds of people flocked to Party World in Comstock Park to play in Saturday night's billion-dollar Powerball. The owner said it’s the world’s luckiest store.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — The Powerball Jackpot climbed to a whopping $1.3 billion after no ticket matched winning numbers this past Wednesday.

Before Saturday's drawing, hundreds of people bought tickets at what they hoped was a "lucky" West Michigan store, excited to try and hit the jackpot.

"$1.3 billion today and we’re the lucky store in Michigan so we draw a little bit more crowd whenever we’re selling tickets, and everybody wants a chance at the luck,” said Party World General Manager Dave Castor.

Castor said it’s the world’s luckiest store because since he began in 1991, several people have gone home winners after buying a ticket.

"We are the luckiest four-leaf clover in the world, and it's proved again and again that we keep selling the winner tickets and all you have do is play an easy pick and rub it on the four-leaf clover and you got a good chance,” Castor said.

Twin brothers Kegan and Kolin McAlpine said if they won the life-changing lottery, everyone in their family would retire early and not have to work for the rest of their lives.

The two spent $160 on the Powerball and decided to do a random selection of numbers for their tickets.

"I’ll probably distribute it throughout my family and friends and hopefully retire everyone in my family to do what they want to do instead of having to go to work every single day,” Kegan said.

"I’ll probably buy a nice boat and go fishing and just relax, I’ll like something that’s big enough to haul a fishing boat and live on and have fun with,” Kolin said.

Lucky winners can choose a one-time, lump sum of $527.3 million pre-tax, or choose to receive payouts of $1.09 billion pre-tax in 29 yearly payments that increase by 5% a year.

According to Powerball, the chance of winning is one in 292 million.

Despite slim to no chances of winning, the twins urged others to bet on themselves.

"Come up to party world and buy some tickets, you never know, you can be the next person to win,” Kegan said.

Winning numbers can be found on the official Powerball website here.
