GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Authorities at Gerald R. Ford International Airport are looking into two catalytic converter thefts from their north parking lot, 13 ON YOUR SIDE learned Monday morning.

The north lot of the airport is uncovered and designated for long-term parking.

The police force can't share much else about the two separate thefts, citing an active investigation.

Haley Abbas, Public Information Officer for the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority, shared this statement with 13 ON YOUR SIDE:

Safety for our guests and their belongings remains a top priority for us. Our police regularly patrol all our parking lots as does our parking management partner. Additionally, we maintain surveillance cameras throughout our property and ensure all lots and outdoor spaces are well lit. If guests ever feel the need to be escorted to their vehicle, our police department is always happy to provide assistance.

Catalytic converters have rare and valuable metals making the car components an attractive target for thieves.

Authorities recommend parking in well-lit areas.
