Judge orders competency exam for Willie Bryant Jr.

The judge ordered an exam to determine if Bryant is competent to take part in his defense in that shooting case.

WYOMING, Mich. - Willie Bryant Jr., 33, is accused of shooting a gas station clerk in Wyoming, but he is also undergoing a competency exam in a separate shooting case.

Bryant appeared in court on Tuesday morning, June 5. He's facing charges for shooting a woman on May 20 outside her home on Thomas Street in southeast Grand Rapids.

The judge ordered an exam to determine if Bryant is competent to take part in his defense in that shooting case.

Bryant is also charged in the May 21 robbery of a gas station at 28th Street SW and Buchanan Avenue SW. Prosecutors say he shot and killed the station's clerk, Shannon Schoen.

Bryant and his cousin will appear in court on Wednesday, June 6 for that case.
