Police: Downtown Holland crime spree suspect arrested inside business

Police say the suspect in multiple downtown Holland break-ins was arrested Wednesday morning while he was inside business.

HOLLAND, Mich. - While officers were surveying downtown Holland, they located the man they say has been breaking into numerous businesses from March 22 through April 22.

Over the last several weeks, officers and detectives have been patrolling downtown more often, reviewing surveillance videos and interviewing business owners in search of the person behind 15 breaking and entering cases, along with two additional failed attempts.

This weekend alone, the Holland Department of Public Safety says six businesses were broken into.

Just before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers noticed a suspect inside a business at 23 W 8th St. A K-9 unit was brought in and the suspect was found hiding inside. He was arrested. Police believe is he involved in the other breaking and entering cases in the area.

Around 6:40 a.m., officers were sent to another breaking and entering that happened on Washington Avenue. The suspect in that incident fled but was eventually found at the nearby apartment in Meadow Lanes. He was taken into custody. Police do not believe this incident is related to the string of break-ins downtown.
