KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The father of an baby boy who drowned in a bathtub in Sparta Township in November 2023 is facing perjury charges.

Keenan Johnson is the father of the 8-month-old baby who died and the boyfriend of 23-year-old Olivia Miller, Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker says. Miller is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of 2nd-degree child abuse in the boy's drowning death.

Miller is accused of leaving her baby in the bathtub while she used her phone for over 20 minutes. She told detectives a different story, however, saying that she left the room for just a few minutes to switch the laundry.

When she returned to the bathtub, she found the baby floating face up with his face submerged in the water, she said.

When first responders arrived, they gave the child CPR and rushed him to the hospital. He later died.

Johnson's perjury charge is in relation to an investigative subpoena, according Becker.

Becker did not provide any details on what false statement given by Johnson resulted in the perjury charge.

Miller pleaded not guilty to both counts she was charged with, and the Magistrate judge set the bond at $300,000 cash/surety.

Miller's next hearing is on Feb. 7 in the 63rd District Court.
