8-month-old baby dies after being pulled from bathtub near Sparta

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office says the child was alive when they were taken to the hospital but died from their injuries Wednesday night.

SPARTA, Mich. — An 8-month-old child pulled from a bathtub Wednesday afternoon has passed away, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office.

First responders were called out to a home off 16 Mile Road Northwest near Kenowa Avenue in Sparta Township Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. 

Deputies tell 13 ON YOUR SIDE a child was found in the bathtub inside the home.

First responders gave the child CPR and rushed the baby to the hospital. 

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office says the child was alive when they were taken to the hospital but died from their injuries Wednesday night.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office says it is now working to learn what led up to the event and determine the next steps.
