BATTLE CREEK, Mich — Health officials in Battle Creek are warning people after multiple people overdosed on Thanksgiving.

The Calhoun County Public Health Department says multiple people overdosed at the same place Thursday but did not die.

The health department says it appears the overdoses involved an opioid but say that most drug overdoses involve multiple substances.

Calhoun County Medical Director Dr. William Nettleton says while the best way to avoid the risk of overdose is not to use drugs, people who do use or are experiencing substance use disorder can reduce the risk of fatal overdose by following the precautions below:

  • Keep naloxone readily available on you and at home. Naloxone can help reverse an opioid overdose.
  • Never use drugs alone. Make sure a designated person who has not taken drugs is available to administer naloxone or call for emergency assistance.

There are several places in West Michigan that you can get Narcan from. For a full list, click here
