Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital announces visitor restrictions

The hospital says they will be limiting the number of visitors due to a high number of admissions and an increase in respiratory illnesses.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital announced Thursday that visitor restrictions will go into effect immediately.

The hospital said a large number of pediatric admissions, alongside an increase in respiratory illnesses in the area, are the cause.

Visitors of patients will be limited to two people during the day and one person at night. The NICU visitor policy is not affected by the restrictions.

While the restrictions are in place, the hospital will remain open and care for patients. However, the hospital says that there may be longer wait times and beds in "non-traditional settings."

Experts at Helen DeVos offer some tips to protect you and your children from respiratory viruses:

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19.

With increases in Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infections, experts also urge people to talk to their primary care provider for more information on RSV preventative measures:
