Potholes are blemishes on roads that most of us could live without. It may not be a surprise that 40% of Michigan Roads eligible for federal aid are considered in “poor condition” by the Michigan Transportation Management Council. However, did you know the remaining 49% of roads NOT eligible for federal aid are also considered in “poor condition?”

In addition, only 8.2% of roads from 2014-2017 were categorized as being in “good” condition, and serious injuries from car crashes jumped from 5,634 to 6,084 between 2016 and 2017.

So who pays for damages caused by crumbling roads and potholes? Usually nobody, which means it leaves you to cover the cost.
