IDENTIFIED | Body found in Fennville identified as missing Chicago man

The Allegan County Sheriff's Office has identified the body that washed ashore from Lake Michigan as a 21-year-old missing man from Chicago.

FENNVILLE, Mich. — A body that washed ashore from Lake Michigan in Allegan County has been identified as a missing man from Chicago.

Elijah Ramone Looper, 21, was last seen in Chicago on Nov. 15, 2023, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Looper's body washed ashore in Fennville on Wednesday, Feb. 14 and was spotted by some homeowners in the area, who called the police.

When investigators arrived at the 2200 block of Lakeshore Drive, they found Looper's remains, which had been in the water for some time.

At first, the remains couldn't be identified because of how long the body was in the water. But dental records were later used to confirm the identity as the missing Chicago man.

The Allegan County Sheriff's Office says that they have not received the medical examiner's opinion on the cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
