City of Holland hosting diaper drive throughout March

The city is collecting both diapers of all sizes and baby wipes.

HOLLAND, Mich. — Some families may know all too well about the struggle of paying for diapers and wipes.

But thanks to a new diaper drive, people will not only be able to help donate to the cause, but also help others get the items they need.

In partnership with Nestlings Diaper Bank, the City of Holland is hosting a diaper drive.

The goal is to collect all different sizes of unused diapers and baby wipes.

To donate, people are asked to drop off diapers and wipes at either the Holland Parks and Recreation Office or Holland City Hall.

The Holland Parks and Recreation Office is located at 429 East 24th Street. People dropping off at this location can leave the items in a collection box inside the office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Holland City Hall is located at 270 South River Avenue. People dropping off at this location can do so from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kemri Hilton, one of the city’s recreation program coordinators, said the Nestlings Diaper Bank works with 35 partners to help hand out diapers and wipes to families in Ottawa and Allegan counties.

This year, they expect to hand out over 400,000 diapers because the need is so high.

"The need, especially since COVID, has just increased tremendously," Hilton said. "And families that were a little bit tighter in their finances then are absolutely tighter in their finances now. And so, there's no federal program that helps supply diapers and wipes. So this really helps fill a gap in that area."

This diaper driver runs for the entirety of March.
