A 48-year-old man and a 16-year-old who were arrested on Nov. 24 for breaking and entering have been linked to the break-in and arson of Graphix Signs and Embroidery in Holland Township.
The fire occurred on Nov. 24 near the corner of of East Lakewood Boulevard and 112th Avenue.
Police have also said that the pair may be responsible for up to 12 other break-ins in the Holland-Zeeland area.
On Friday morning, police were called to Beechwood Dry Cleaners on Douglas Avenue for a burglary in progress. When police arrived there were able to apprehend the two suspects.
Owners of the dry cleaning business told WZZM 13 the pair took their computer as well as their DVR system, connected to the surveillance cameras. The owner said they also cut power to the business and broke a glass door to enter. The pair were also allegedly next door at Four Corners Framing.
Michelle Calkins said she received a call from her co-owner just before sunrise on Friday morning, and when she arrived to her business she found her front door shattered and a massive rock inside the business. Calkins said nothing else was destroyed but some money was taken.
"A hole in a door and a 100 bucks is definitely worth that they got caught," Calkins said. "But we're happy nothing else happened to our artwork and customers artwork."
The dollar loss is still being calculated for the string of thefts, but according to Ottawa County Police tens of thousands of dollars in property was stolen -- not including the damages sustained from the arson.
The 48-year-old has a criminal history, and he was on parole for similar crimes. The 16-year-old is currently being held in a youth home. Prosecutors are working to have the 16-year-old waived up to circuit court.
