KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A teenage boy is dead and two others suffered gunshot wounds on Easter Sunday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said.

Just after 2 p.m. on Easter, officers responded to a report that "a man was just shot" and a vehicle sped off from the area.

In the 1000 block of Reed Street, officers found 16-year-old Kevian Andre Rice with a gunshot wound. Hospital medical staff pronounced him dead a short time later.

Police found a firearm at the scene.

The car that left the scene showed up at an area hospital with two people who had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Detectives said no arrests have been made at this point, and the case remains open.

"The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Rice," Captain Rafael Diaz said in a news release.

Authorities believe the violence involved an online marketplace transaction.
