Police say this case is now a homicide investigation.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man found dead on the sidewalk after a shooting has been identified, Grand Rapids Police say.

Police say it happened on Monday around 6 a.m. in the area of Hall Street SE and Eastern Avenue SE. An officer had been driving in the area and noticed a man lying on the sidewalk. A jogger called 911 to report the incident "almost simultaneously," according to Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom.

Police have identified the man as Lawrence White Jr., 43.

White had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Winstrom said it is believed that the shooting was targeted. No arrests have been made, and police do not have a suspect description at this time.

Officers went door-to-door in the area to speak with residents and look for possible property damage from gunfire.
