Phony websites offer services that you would normally have done at the Secretary of State, but never provide the promised services.

MICHIGAN - Don't get duped!

The Michigan Secretary of State's office is alerting people to fake websites. The phony sites claim to offer some of the same services as the SOS, but after someone pays the fees, the services are never provided as promised.

Tips to avoid fake websites:

  • Closely examine the website you're on before agreeing to pay anything
  • Double check the web address to be sure it's an official Michigan site
  • Be wary of any website claiming to provide free services you would normally pay for
  • Do not share any personal information with unknown websites

The state recommends people go directly to either www.michigan.gov or www.expressSOS.com for services.
