MUSKEGON, Mich. — The man killed in a fire in an attached garage over the weekend has been identified, Muskegon Fire authorities say.
First responders were called to a fire in the 2100 block of Bourdon in the Lakeside neighborhood around 11 p.m. Saturday.
They found Jace Baker, a 28-year-old man suffering from severe injuries.
Baker was able to leave the garage before firefighters arrived, but he had burns over 95% of his body. He was transported to a Muskegon hospital, then airlifted to Grand Rapids, where he later died.
Investigators confirmed the fire started in the interior of the garage, where Baker was working on his motorcycle.
We know the victim was working on a motorcycle in the garage when the fire occurred. We do not have an exact cause of the fire.
Baker was a United States Army veteran, authorities say. His obituary says he loved riding motorcycles and playing his guitar.
He was a father who had a second child on the way.
No foul play is suspected, but it's unknown what caused the fire at this time.
Baker's memorial is planned for Saturday, Oct. 21 at Systema Funeral Services on Apple Avenue from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. His military honors service is planned for 2 p.m.
