Bring your gently used winter gear to the Muskegon YMCA coat drive

The Muskegon YMCA is looking for child-sized winter gear to give to students in need at area schools.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Winter clothes can be costly and many can't afford the things they need to stay warm this time of year. The Muskegon YMCA wants to help keep kids in the community safe and warm this winter with its first-ever coat drive.

"It was brought to our attention that kids in our local school systems, when it comes to winter gear, sometimes can be a little inadequately prepared for recess, you know, traveling to and from school, whatever it may be," said Muskegon YMCA community engagement coordinator Airn Pero.

So they wanted to step in and help. The Y is asking for your new or gently used child sized coats, as well as any other winter gear you might have.

"Boots, hats, gloves, scarves," said Pero.

Donations can be dropped off at three different locations:

Muskegon YMCA - 1115 3rd Street in Muskegon

Hackley Library - 316 W. Webster Avenue in Muskegon

Muskegon Family Care - 2201 S. Getty Street in Muskegon Heights

Your donations will be accepted until January 12th before being distributed to Muskegon area schools.

"If you have anything, anything helps, big or small," said Pero. "So we really appreciate any type of donation. And, you know, it's just awesome to see the community come together to support our local students and make sure they're staying safe, make sure they're comfortable during the cold season."
