MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — A woman is dead and a semi driver went to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a crash in Muskegon County.
The Michigan State Police said it happened on Apple Avenue and Wolf Lake Road.
Troopers said a 24-year-old woman was headed eastbound on Apple Avenue when she turned into the E & A Grocery store.
That's when MSP said the woman collided with a westbound semi hauling gravel.
First responders rushed the woman to a hospital where she died from her injuries. First responders also took the semi driver to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities said the semi caught on fire following the crash.
Roquie Chetal, who works at Wolf Lake Auto Repair, witnessed the crash. You can see the crash site from the business.
"I was sitting inside with the garage doors open, we heard the big boom, these things fly by all the time and normally they boom because there's a manhole cover over there but this one was a lot louder," said Chatel.
After the collision, you can see a cloud of dust as the truck pushes the car into a grassy section next to the grocery store. The impact ended up taking down a telephone pole and catching the semi on fire.
"There was debris all the way down the road, wheels and batteries and front end pieces," said Chatel.
Chatel said his heart breaks for the victim's family.
"I'm praying for you guys, it's really tough because whenever you lose somebody like that it's really, really hard," said Chatel.
