Muskegon Winter Sports Complex searching for stolen snowmobile, $500 reward for its return

The complex's primary trail grooming snowmobile was stolen Monday night.

MUSKEGON, Mich. - A snowmobile used to clear trails at the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex was stolen.

The complex said the snowmobile was stolen from the home of the mechanic doing volunteer work on it, in the area of Skeels Rad and 180th Street in Holton.

"This is kind of a slap in the face to our donors and to our supporters," Jim Rudicil, Executive Director of Muskegon Winter Sports Complex said.

The snowmobile is actually on loan to the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex from the Michigan DNR. It is used to groom the trails of the complex. It's a yellow, 2012 Ski-Doo Skandic SWT with a VIN #YH2SLSCB1CR000273. It also has a broken radiator, a dent on its rear end, hook ups in the back for grooming equipment and is marked with a DNR sticker.

"We're on the hook for the snowmobile. So the DNR's not just going to forgive us for losing their snowmobile," Rudicil explained, adding that the price of a new snowmobile would cost around $13,000 to $14,0000.

The mechanic's trailer that transported the snowmobile to his house was also stolen. It was a Triton trailer with the plate number D161222.

The sports complex is offering a $500 reward for anyone with information that helps them get it back. If you know anything, call the Oceana County Sheriff's Department at 231-873-2121 or Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
