PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Multiple crews responded to a house fire Monday night in Plainfield Township.

Kent County Sheriff's Office said they received reports around 7:30 p.m. of electricity arcing and sparking off the house on Pine Island Drive. The Plainfield Township Fire Department and Alpine Firefighters Association responded, as well as Consumers Energy and Life EMS.

Crews on the scene said the fire started in the house's basement. They said the fire caused structural and significant smoke damage, but the flames were mostly contained to the lower level.

No occupants of the house were hurt, but family pets including a dog, a cat and a snake all died as a result. Firefighters were seen exiting through the front door carrying what appeared to be a burned terrarium.
