Young mother saves toddler’s life before Jeep fatally hits her at Michigan state park

In her last act in life, a 33-year-old mother pushed her toddler out of the way of an out-of-control vehicle at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes.

OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. — A Pierson woman is dead after being hit by a car at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes in Golden Township on Sunday morning, according to the Oceana County Sheriff's Office.

OCSO said around 11:40 a.m. Kadie Price, 33, and her family were outside of their car in the Vehicle Scramble Area of the park to watch the action at the drag strip on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes.

While they were watching, deputies said a 1980 Jeep CJ was racing northbound on the drag strip and lost control as it accelerated, veering off the drag strip and toward Price and her family.

The Jeep hit the Price's family vehicle which then hit Kadie. She was able to push her 2-year-old daughter out of the way just before being hit, deputies said.

OCSO deputies, bystanders, Silver Lake State Park Rangers and staff tried to help Kadie, but first aid attempts were unsuccessful and she died at the scene.

The driver is a 64-year-old Michigan man whose name isn't being released pending further investigation, deputies said.

The investigation is currently underway by OCSO.
