Wyoming names first female director of public safety

"We look forward to seeing her future accomplishments as she leads our public safety team in its ongoing mission to protect and to serve our community."

Just several weeks before Chief Carmody's last day, the Wyoming Department of Public Safety named Capt. Kimberly Koster as the department's new chief.

Koster was unanimously voted to succeed Carmody, and she will be the first female chief to ever serve Wyoming. She has worked in public safety for more than two decades, she began her career as a school resource and community officer.

Koster worked her way up through the ranks and was promoted to captain back in 2010.
