Movies on Monroe summer lineup announced

Get ready for a summer filled with movies.

Movies on Monroe is returning for a second year at the location in the Monroe North neighborhood.

The outdoor movie event is hosted by Downtown Grand Rapids, Inc. and all movies are free and open to the public. 

The film series kicks off on June 7. On each night, there will be two movies; the first starts at 7:30 p.m. followed by a brief intermission and then the second film. 

Here is the schedule for the summer: 

  • June 7: Beetlejuice, Bohemian Rhapsody
  • June 21: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, A Star is Born
  • July 12: Matilda, Crazy Rich Asians
  • July 26: Hotel Transylvania 3, A Quiet Place
  • Aug. 9: Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You
  • Aug. 23: Space Jam, Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Movie-goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs, beer, wine and snacks. Rental lawn chairs will be available for $2. 

Pets are also welcome. 

Last year was the first summer at the location on Monroe Avenue. Before that, the movies were hosted at Ah-Nab-Awen Park and the events were known as Movies in the Park.
