GRANT, Michigan — Two members of the Grant Public Schools Board of Education were faced with recall elections on May 7.

Rachal Gort and Richard Vance were on the ballot in parts of Muskegon and Newaygo counties against respective challengers Mindy Conley and Lindsay Malich.

Gort and Vance both survived the recall election, both winning their races against their challengers.

The recall stems from a community-driven effort to recall multiple members of the board after a controversial mural at the district's middle school's health center led to a debate about the health center itself.

The board of commissioners voted to end the district's contract with the health provider, only to have it renegotiated months later. The whole incident would allegedly cost the district thousands of dollars in legal fees.

The recall elections are scheduled for Tuesday, May 7. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. You can find the results of election here:
