Tom Izzo hoping for milestone 700th career win against Michigan tonight

The Michigan State Spartans (12-8) host the Michigan Wolverines (7-13) tonight at 9 p.m.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Tom Izzo is hoping he can earn his 700th career win while celebrating his 69th birthday in East Lansing tonight.

The Michigan State Spartans (12-8) are set to host the Michigan Wolverines (7-13) tonight at 9 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Hall of Famer Izzo turns 69 today, and what better way to celebrate than to join an elite club of college basketball coaches who have over 700 wins?

The Spartans have been mediocre this year after being ranked #4 going into the 2023-24 season. The Wolverines are off to their worst start under head coach Juwan Howard and are hoping to take home a rivalry win to boost their confidence into February.

Michigan State is an 11.5 favorite to beat the Wolverines at home.

The Spartans are tied for fifth with a 4-5 record in the Big Ten Conference, while the Wolverines are last with a 2-7 record.

And while the Spartans are expected to win, they need to have a good showing to end the season to ensure that Izzo can keep his NCAA Tournament appearance streak alive, the longest of any coach in history. Izzo and the Spartans are hoping to extend the streak to 26 consecutive appearances this year.

You can catch tonight's game streaming on the Peacock app.
